What do you do when you are faced with a challenge?

 

This week, as most are, will be busy and full of victories and also a few challenges. Remember, it is important to celebrate both your victories and also acknowledge your challenges.  Often times, your greatest growth and victories come from working through challenges and shifting your mindset from,“why is this happening TO me,” to, “why is this happening FOR me”? It is all about your perspective and the path you go down to work through whatever life presents to you.

 

 As a human, you need other humans. Social connectivity is critical; it is as important as the air you breathe. How each of us fills that need will be very different.

 

So again I ask you: What do you do when you are faced with a challenge? Do you reach out to others for their support and perspective; or do you try to keep a “stiff upper lip” and go it alone?

 

Reflect on how you feel when you are able to provide a listening ear, helping hand, or share a bit of wisdom with someone in your life; it feels GREAT doesn’t it? Just as you are energized when you get the opportunity to lift others up, your colleagues, friends and connections also want to be there to do the same for you. Don’t underestimate the wisdom of John Lennon… “We get by with a little help from our friends”.

 

Keep this in mind as people cross your path each day. Be open to connecting and being there for others; just as others are there for you. Know that you have much to share.

Today and every day, remember that each and every one of us is part of a bigger whole. We do not travel this world alone. We are on this journey of life with all humanity, nature, creatures, every thing and every one around us. We are interconnected.

 

Think about this - through our human connections, we not only impact and change the person with whom we come in contact, we change ourselves and the world around us. Our daily encounters actually shift and change the world.

 

It is important that we reach out and foster more human connections each day. Even though we are experiencing a time of social distancing and isolation, we do not need to become isolated and singular. While it may take more creativity than ever before to connect with each other, it is well worth the effort. You need it; the world needs it. “Be The Change You Wish To See In The World”.


Make a commitment to spread love, kindness, positivity and care each day; and from each interaction you have with others, ask yourself, “do I leave people better off than I found them?”

 

You can and do make a difference moment by moment, day by day; and your actions have endless ripple effects. What kind of a difference maker will you choose to be?

“KISS IT GOODBYE”

 

As you prepare to ring in a New Year; prepare to shift your mindset. Start 2021 with a fresh perspective. Leave those things in 2020 that do not serve you; those things do not belong in your future.

 

What do I mean by this? Anything that is holding you back; holding you down and contributing to negative beliefs about yourself, your capabilities, your success …KISS THOSE THINGS GOODBYE; not in a bitter way – but releasing them with love so that you will experience a better way.

 

What am I talking about? Here are some examples - let go of negative self-image, negative thinking and attitudes, relationships, people, experiences, situations that drag you down. Lean into 2021 with new thoughts and new words that will contribute to new experiences. Your VICTORY begins in your mind, in your thoughts, words and in your beliefs about yourself and life which translates into your actions.

 

Take a moment RIGHT NOW and write down those things that are holding you back from your 2021 vision and a healthy, functional year ahead; next, RELEASE them with LOVE (KISS THEM GOODBYE) for they no longer serve you in your newfound FREEDOM, VICTORY and SUCCESS. Here are some affirmations that will help you KISS THEM GOODBYE; pick one that works for you or create your own:

 

  • “I now release with ease all these old negative beliefs”

  • “It is comfortable for me to change”

  • “My pathway is now smooth”

  • “I am free of the past”

 

NOW…write down WHAT YOU WANT TO BE TRUE FOR YOURSELF; WHAT YOU WANT TO BECOME.  What is it that you really want right now, today, in your life? Think about it and then say, “I accept for myself ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­_____________(whatever you want).  Start believing that you deserve all the good that life has to offer.

 

Here are some affirmations that help you create VICTORY IN YOUR THINKING AND YOUR WORDS. Pick what works for you or create your own:

 

  • “I am worthwhile”

  • “I am deserving”

  • “I love myself”

  • “I allow myself to be fulfilled”

 

Today is a new day. You are now in charge. Now is the moment in which you are creating the future of your life and your world. Wake up each morning and experience the joy of spending another day with you.

Today is Valentine’s Day and most often when we think about Valentine’s Day, we focus outward. While it is important to show those around you the love you have for them, it is equally important (if not more important) to ensure you cultivate feelings and actions of love and support for yourself. To love and connect with others, you first need to love and connect with self. Only when you are truly aligned with your beautiful and unique spirt, can you completely and honestly give and receive real love.

 

How do you begin to love yourself?

 

 Following are a few things you can do immediately to show yourself unconditional love and respect:

 

  • Mind your inner voice- Be aware and conscious of how you treat yourself in your own mind. Pay attention to your self-talk and how it makes you feel. Discard demeaning thoughts and direct your mind and actions to positive behaviors.

  • Clear your mind – Observe and understand your current beliefs, values, and the real motivations behind them. If your beliefs and values are not serving your highest good, question why you are holding onto them. Change those that do not serve you. Remember – when you change your mind; you change your world.

  • Invest time in good self-care – Nourish yourself daily with healthy activities, good nutrition, exercise, proper sleep, and healthy social interaction.

  • Set boundaries and protect yourself – Identify what is and what is not good for you. Gain clarity on what you will and will not accept in your life. Live with intention and purpose.

  • Be gentle, kind and patient with yourself – Give yourself grace as you learn new ways of being and loving yourself. Treat yourself as you would treat anyone you really love.

 

Loving yourself is powerful. When you love yourself, you fill up your cup and you have more than enough to give love to others!

Do you consider yourself curious? Do you look at life through the lens of possibility?

 

What if you “dialed up” your creativity, curiosity, joy and imagination as you show up in the world each day?

 

Attempt to clothe yourself in this spirit. As you do, your world; your life, will look and feel very different. You will begin to see it through a lens of potential and possibility.  Even when things are tough, don’t give up (don’t look at your feet); look up at the stars!

 

This world is so big. Life is so GRAND. There is so much to experience. Remember to always look up and “Reach for the Stars!”

Mastering the art of change is essential to life. Change is happening all around you, moment by moment. In fact, one of the only constants in life is change. Life is fluid; so, you must learn to be fluid with life.

 

One of the keys to living a full life depends upon how you view the world. The lens through which you view the world shapes your reality. You can choose how you view the world and how you respond and react to what happens to you each moment throughout the day.

 

How do you choose to view the world and respond to life’s situations?

 

 No matter what life sends your way, know that you are in control of your feelings and responses. Your thoughts are often responsible for dictating how you feel and if you learn to manage your thoughts, in turn you can also learn how to manage your feelings. You can manage your thoughts by allowing yourself to recognize them and then encouraging yourself to let go of those that are not useful.

 

A mantra that has helped me manage my thoughts and feelings when life feels out of control is:

 

“I have control over how I feel, and I choose to feel at peace”

 

Try it!  Recite this mantra aloud whenever things feel overwhelming. This mantra can be immensely powerful.  It helps to remind you that although you might not be in control over everything in life, you are in control of how you feel and respond to life’s situations. Mindset matters!

Choose to live a life of peace each day, and each moment. It is critical for your well-being. You must consciously and intentionally decide to protect your peace every single day.

 

Life will throw all kinds of situations and potential challenges your way. Today, there are so many challenges we are experiencing that it is easy to lose a sense of calm and peace. Is it possible to have joy, peace, and calm amidst all going on in the world today? Absolutely!

 

You can make a choice each morning how you want to show up and how you want to arm yourself for life’s ups and downs. The intentional actions you choose to create in your life to begin each day will build the bedrock and foundation that will be a key factor to support your ability to remain calm, present, and peaceful no matter what life presents.

 

How will you consciously choose to start your day each morning when your eyes open? It can be any ritual or intentional activity that will help anchor and solidify you. Will it be a prayer, meditation, a mantra, an affirmation, exercise, etc.? You choose what works for you. Make it simple so that you will make it a habit!

 

Life is uncertain and you are bound to experience challenges. Taking the time to arm yourself to deal with these challenges and whatever winds of change come your way will make all the difference. Protect your peace and face whatever is thrown at you in a way that helps you think broadly and see opportunities and solutions even during stress-filled times.

 

Arm yourself each day through your intentional activity to stand firm, be calm, and exude peace even when challenges are encroaching. Life is 10% of what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.

The thoughts you think and the words you speak create your experiences and your reality; thus, your world.

 

Choose your thoughts and your words wisely. Thoughts and words have power; thoughts and words impact your life. They create your universe.

 

Words cannot change reality; but they can change how you perceive reality. Words can have life-giving or life-draining power. One destructive word you say to yourself or others can have negative outcomes; yet, encouraging words you say to yourself or others can be a life-giving force.

 

If you want insight into what your life will be like in the future; be aware of the thoughts you are thinking and the words you are saying today. Every thought, every word contributes to the actions you take and the results you get; thus, what your life becomes.

 

My challenge to you this week is: slow down, be aware of your thoughts and your words. Before you speak, take a deep breath and choose your words and the response you have to life interactions and situations. These intentional actions will make a significant difference in your life today and every day.

What you give out comes back to you. I believe it is exactly that way with the thoughts we think and the words that we speak. I believe that when we think a thought, speak a word or a sentence, somehow it comes back to you in the form of an experience. You have 60,000 to 80,000 thoughts per day (about 80% of them are negative). Your thoughts speed through your mind very quickly, so at first it can be difficult to shape them.

 

Today, start to listen to what you say and be aware of all the things you are telling yourself. The way that you talk to yourself inwardly is important because it becomes the basis of your spoken words. Words of blame and negativity will not give you freedom. There is power in your words, and power in taking responsibility for your life. If you want to begin to take responsibility for your life; then, be responsible for your mouth; what you say both inwardly and outwardly. You are the only thinker in your mind. You choose your thoughts, and they are the basis for your self-talk. Your self-talk creates and supports your beliefs which contribute to your actions and the results you achieve.

 

Are you ready to make a change in this area of your life?

 

If so, then start today by becoming conscious of what is going on in your life by listening to the words you speak to self and others. Then, begin to make the changes that will start healing yourself, others, and the impact you have on the world around you. Retrain your thinking and speaking into positive patterns so that you can achieve beneficial results. Start by using affirmations; consciously choose sentences or words that will either eliminate something from your life or help create something new in your life. Begin to take this first step and you will experience absolute miracles around you.

How did you start your day today? Did you set an intention for the day? Did you think about how you want others to experience you; how you want to “show up”?

 

Whether you think about it or not; consciously or unconsciously; you are building your reputation and creating your legacy every day. Often, we do not think about it. As you traverse through this world each day, you leave your lasting imprint on those with whom you come into contact. It is important to realize that YOU touch OTHERS’ LIVES each day; anything and everything you touch is your legacy. 

 

Your legacy is not defined at the end of the road but in the present moment through moments shared, decisions made,  actions taken, and reactions displayed. Create your legacy intentionally through your words and actions. Be a difference maker.

Are you conscious of all the treasures in your life? Are you aware of all the good that happens to you daily? Have you made a commitment to focus on the good stuff?

 

You see, a central truth of life is that we always find what we look for; so, if we look for things that we appreciate and are grateful for; then, we will begin to see more of those things that cross our paths. As Oprah Winfrey said, “If you start focusing on what you have and what you are grateful for, you will begin to see more.”

 

The funny thing about gratitude is that when we begin to practice gratitude all of a sudden we start feeling more joy. Gratitude and joy are eternal twins; where there is one there is always the other. 

 

Remember the feeling you had as a child when you awoke in the morning and smiled? It is time you felt like that again. Try this simple technique and begin to turn up the dial on gratitude and joy in your life.

 

Grateful Arising:

Pause when you wake up in the morning and rest for a few moments on the edge of your bed:

 

Repeat this mantra: “I am grateful for the many blessings coming my way.”

 

Then take time to notice three things you feel grateful for before anything has happened: (parts of your body; the air around you, sounds, dreams, etc.) Simply notice and appreciate three things.

 

Then, start your day.

 

You have 86,400 seconds given to you as a gift each day. Turn up the Gratitude; Walk in Joy and Happiness will be close behind.

When was the last time you reflected on your attitude? Have you done an “attitude check” recently? If your life and your experiences do not reflect what you desire them to be, look inward vs. outward. Taking time to understand how you are thinking, reacting, responding will make a difference in your life, your experiences and how you respond to your circumstances. It will also make a difference in how you are being experienced by those around you.

 

It is freeing to know that you have a choice. You can make each situation different by choosing your attitude. This change in frame of reference will make your life different. Begin affirming today, “I choose healthy, supportive and nourishing reactions to the experiences and circumstances in my life.” I am convinced that by doing this, you will experience a new, healthy, successful way of being.

It is a “human thing” to strive for meaning and connection in our lives. It is as important as the air we breathe.  In fact, our brain contains a significant region that is solely dedicated to “social” connections. Yet, how often do each of us really see, hear, value, appreciate, connect with each other? I believe, it is something that too often falls by the wayside. Yet, it is important to our happiness, wellbeing, life satisfaction and even our survival.

 

So often we think “we don’t have time”, but there are 1,440 minutes in each day. What if we decided to take a minute or two each day to connect with someone. It can be as simple as a smile, a helping hand, a kindness. What kind of impact will that have on your psyche? What kind of impact will that have on the person with whom you connect? What kind of impact will that have on the community; the world around us?

Change, growth, and transition are always around you; sometimes subtle and at other times more obvious. Change can be liberating and exciting; but, change can also be difficult, chaotic and nerve-wracking. When you are experiencing change in your life, many times it can be accompanied by a period of transition, or “in-between”, when it feels as though you are in a state of limbo. The in-between tends to be a bit uncomfortable, uncertain, and difficult, but it is a necessary piece to get you from one chapter in life to the next.

 

Transformations, big and small, are what keeps life interesting. A life void of change would be a very dull one. Embrace it. You are creating new memories, making new friends, growing your mind, body and spirit, and becoming a fuller version of YOU!

As you live your life, you will wear many different hats and need to continually adapt to many different situations. To live a fulfilling life, it is so important that you honor and bring the “authentic you” to the table. You will never be someone else and they will never be you; so, why compare yourself with others? No one in the entire world can do a better job of being you than you.

 

Knowing who you are, honoring who you are, and having confidence in who you are enables you to live in alignment with your values and beliefs, find focus and direction, and establish your true identity.

 

You have unique talents, perspectives, insights, and skills that are important and beautiful. Celebrate and Honor YOU!!

Paying attention to the breath is one way to anchor yourself to the present moment. Checking in on your breath throughout the day enables you to be tuned in to your current mind state. Awareness of your breath and mind state is one way to help you know when to place yourself in “park”, rethink your response or approach, or open your mind to new possibilities.

 

Using your breathing to nurture mindfulness takes no time at all, only a shift in attention. Just keep returning to the breath when your mind wanders or when you are feeling a little stressed. Great adventures await you when you give yourself a little time to JUST BREATHE!

When you give the gift of true listening; you are also giving the gift of healing. Listen with the entire fabric of your being; listen to understand, not reply. Listen; do not project your own autobiography, assuming, thoughts, feelings, motives, and intentions on another. Listen to understand the reality inside of another person’s head and heart – not your own.

 

When you are truly listening to understand, you are focused on receiving the deep communication of another human’s soul.

Each one of us has unique gifts and talents meant to be shared with each other; and in doing so, we contribute to making the world (or our little piece of it) a better place. But, sometimes, as individuals, we don’t see clearly the talents and gifts that we possess. Often, it takes others to share what they see in us to help us realize the talents we have so that we strengthen them and use them to reach our full potential. This can have life changing impact.

 

We are connected to one another. Being part of the “brotherhood and sisterhood” of humankind we are meant to support one another, lift one another, and provide insight and feedback to each other about the beautiful gifts and talents we possess.

 

This week, “be on the lookout” and share with those with whom you come in contact the gifts you see in them.  Experience how that makes you feel and see and experience the gift that you give to another just by recognizing their unique strengths. You truly can make the world a better place.

The distractions of modern life pull our attention in a dozen directions; so, becoming distracted and losing track of mindfulness is natural. If you find yourself overwhelmed by distractions, ask yourself, “Where is my mind now?” This can be a very effective way to bring you back into present awareness. Try repeating this phrase when you find your attention bouncing around. Over time, you will start to learn a great deal about where your mind wanders to when left to its own devices.

 

I hope this mindfulness activity helps you stay in the “here and now” and truly enjoy all the wonderful experiences life has to offer.

How often do you find yourself re-living the past or contemplating the future? It is normal for our minds to wander. Remember, the point of power is always in the present moment; and, the present moment is the only one you have.

 

Life brings with it both ups and downs; it is part of the human experience. What if you shifted your mindset and looked for the beauty in “being alive”; no matter what you were experiencing, (light or darkness).  If you look for it, there is truly goodness that can be found no matter what “season of life” you are experiencing.

 

Start each day with an attitude of gratitude. Make a point, before your feet hit the ground each morning, to consciously and out loud state three things for which you are grateful. How you spend your days is, of course, how you spend your life. If you are in one of those “dark” times; remember that it is always darkest before the dawn!

Being Is Enough

We are not always clear about what we are experiencing, or why.

In the midst of grief, transition, transformation, learning, healing, or discipline - it's difficult to have perspective.

That's because we have not learned the lesson yet. We are in the midst of it. The gift of clarity has not yet arrived.

Our need to control can manifest itself as a need to know exactly what's going on. We cannot always know. Sometimes, we need to let ourselves be and trust that clarity will come later, in retrospect.

If we are confused, that is what we are supposed to be. The confusion is temporary. We shall see. The lesson, the purpose, shall reveal itself - in time, in its own time.

It will all make perfect sense - later.

Today, I will stop straining to know what I don't know, to see what I can't see, to understand what I don't yet understand. I will trust that being is sufficient, and let go of my need to figure things out.

We are three weeks into the New Year and you may have started to think about “shelving” the goals you created. As the stressors of life begin to set in, you may be starting to wonder if you are going to be successful in accomplishing these goals.

 

My advice to you is “aim for improvement; not perfection”. Instead of abandoning altogether, REVISE. You may now have more insight to adjust your goal and create a concrete plan that makes it more realistic and achievable.

Persevere. Recommit to your goal. If you have veered off track; don’t get down on yourself. Revise, DO NOT Abandon! Pursue your goals with drive, dedication and determination!

You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you, making you spill your coffee everywhere. Why did you spill the coffee? You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup. Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea. The point is whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out. Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which will happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It's easy to fake it, until you get rattled. So we have to ask ourselves... "What's in my cup?" When life gets tough, what spills out? Joy, gratefulness, peace and humility? Or do reactions of anger, bitterness, or harsh words come out? You choose!

 

Every day we make choices about how we act and react to the circumstances of our day. How do you want to show up? How do you want people to experience you? Let’s work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation, kindness, gentleness and love for others.

Wouldn’t it be remarkable if you could follow the path of the strong, sturdy, persevering tree and shed what no longer serves you, looking forward, with ease, to the beautiful journey you have ahead? Each one of us spends much of our lives forming attachments to people, places, things, connections, emotions, etc. There are times in your life when you may need to make the decision to “let go” of some of these. This action can push you outside of your comfort zone. It can be scary; but it can also be really amazing.  If you do not believe me, just look at how stunning a tree looks while it is in the process of “letting go” of its leaves! We all need one another. Often times, you may think that you should “go it alone”. At times, you may also feel that you are burdening others when you reach out; but that is not true. We are all socially connected. We all want to lend a helping hand. Do not deny others the opportunity to assist you and also, do not miss an opportunity to help another. You have many gifts and talents to contribute to others and others have many gifts and talents to contribute to you. Being surrounded with people who help you GROW is what life and living is all about. There is strength in our differences and there is comfort in where we overlap.

 

 

 No matter what age you are or what your circumstances might be, you are special, and you have something unique to offer; a listening ear, words of advice, or support with a task, etc. Every little bit counts. These contributions make the world a better place to live for all, and in the end, your life is more meaningful!

We can ask ourselves, “What makes me feel bright, vibrant and alive?”, “What could today offer that makes me look forward to tomorrow?”, Where do I find my happy?” The answers to these questions are ours individually to discover. The answers are as unique and original as each of us are. The answer you find today may not be the same answer that you will find tomorrow. Happiness is a moment by moment, hour by hour, day by day journey.

How do we begin to create a habit, a practice in our life for self-love and self-appreciation to flourish?

 

The more you practice self-love, the stronger message you send to yourself that you deserve it. This is a journey that takes dedication and practice. It is not vain or selfish to love yourself and make happiness a priority – it is necessary. You cannot love and appreciate others, if you do not love and appreciate yourself.

 

A good place to start is to LISTEN TO YOUR INNER VOICE – What is it telling you? Is your very own self talk positive and affirmative or is it negative and critical. Remember – the thoughts we think and the words we speak create our world and our experiences. What we believe about ourselves and our lives comes true for us. So, if we find ourselves thinking and saying things that are negative – then we must CHANGE IT – CONSCIOUSLY WE CAN CHOOSE A NEW THOUGHT. We must TAKE CONTROL OF OUR INNER VOICE.

 

Self-love is foundational and sets the tone for every other relationship that we have in our lives. Self-love then is not a destination, but a practice that we institute to live a happy, fulfilling life.

Today, reach out to friends and family and let them know that you love them. Let them know that their hopes, beliefs, and dreams are not just believable, they are achievable! Inspire them to believe that the best is yet to come and that there is light at the end of the tunnel…and that right now we are all called to  be a light for someone else. The forest is a metaphor for life. There are times in our life when we feel lost, unsure, not knowing what our next move is or on which path we should travel; that is ok. Stand still, slow down, pause and reflect. Quieting our mind and being present enables us to listen for the “still small voice”. Doing this allows us to connect with our inner wisdom which can provide us the insight we need to potentially light our path forward. Stand Still. The Forest Knows Where YOU Are. You Must Let It Find You.

It will also make a difference in how you are being experienced by those around you.

How often do you sit still and really listen for and be open to the messages you are receiving? Many times, when we are faced with a challenge or a dilemma, we want to IMMEDIATELY get “BUSY” trying to solve it. We begin to brainstorm solutions and want to put them into practice NOW. It is as though we feel that if we are not “busy”, “active” or “in motion”, we think it will not get resolved.  We want to “check it off” our list!

What if you try “just being” vs. “doing” right away? Let the challenge/dilemma you are faced with just SIT and YOU SIT with it? Be still. Meditate on it. Pray on it. This is one of the hardest things to do. In this age of constant motion and action you may think this is “doing nothing”; but you are doing a HUGE SOMETHING.  When we pause and reflect, we become more in tune with our inner voice, our intuition, that ‘still small voice’ that may be speaking to us. Putting this into practice may provide the insight you need and nudge you in the right direction for a resolution.

This week try this on for size. Be still and “sit” with a problem or a challenge. Even if you are tempted to resolve and “check it off” your list, just BE STILL and  SIT IT OUT.  You will be amazed at the messages you receive when you quiet yourself and are open to your inner voice. You can be sure that your path forward will illuminate!

As you engage in your day, are you conscious of the vibrations you are creating? Are they happy, joyous, welcoming vibrations or are they stress filled and challenging? Be aware. There is a saying, “with great power comes great responsibility”. Your words can be life changing and mountain moving; not only for yourself, but also for others.

We are all guilty of thinking about the past or the future, especially when doing everyday tasks (like brushing your teeth or commuting to work). But these can also be great opportunities to practice bringing yourself back to the breath and the here and now. Here are a few tips that can also help you relish the present:

 

  • Take it one task at a time. Multi-tasking has become the norm, but when you are switching back and forth from one thing to another, you are not giving any of the single tasks your undivided attention. Try breaking each task down and completing it before moving onto the next. 

  • Slow Down. Rushing through life can cause anxiety and stress and take you out of the present moment more easily. Try taking things at a little slower, more relaxed pace, especially when you are starting your day. 

  • Be Aware. Take notice of what you are doing and what you are saying. Be aware when your mind starts to wander. Breathe deeply and bring your focus back to the here and now. Notice your surroundings, your breath, and how you are feeling.

 

Challenge yourself to practice bringing yourself back to the here and now throughout each day. It is amazing all of the beauty you can discover when you are present.

Most of us have heard this popular quote by Maya Angelou, but often we do not practice it in our daily lives. We live in a busy world of constant distractions. How many of us wake up in the morning, open our eyes, feet hit the ground and we are off and running… minutes, hours, the entire day goes by and we miss the wonder that is scattered about everywhere? We don’t take the time to notice the little moments that take our breath away each day.

By taking care of your own needs, it allows you to have the resources to give to your work, activities, relationships, and family.

It’s a new year and a new decade, be present to what is actually happening at this minute and your role in the here and now. Thoughts of yesterday or tomorrow will pull you away from creating and experiencing today. Each day you are given the opportunity to learn from the past, but not dwell in it. Do not focus on the past and give it energy to repeat itself in the present. Instead, learn the lessons it has taught you and apply them to today. When you are attentive to today you will have fewer regrets as you move forward. When you are attentive to today, you take control of creating your future.

 

Today, notice how many times you consciously spend time living in the past or worrying about the future. When you are in that space, “consciously” draw your attention back to the here and now; which is the only place you can create true change.

This past week I was feeling a little “low”; a little “lonely”; being honest, I was feeling a little sorry for myself. Then, out of the blue,  I received some messages through Facebook messenger from some of my connections; people I hadn’t communicated with in some time. They were just reaching out to say “Hi” and let me know they “missed connecting with me”. What a blessing this connection was; just what I needed, and at a time I needed it most! At that moment, I decided to reach out to some people who had been on my mind; yet, I had not followed the prompting in the past to connect with them. This connection,  interaction, activity changed my whole demeanor. The shift in my psyche that occurred by reaching out and connecting with others was a reminder to me about how critical connection with others is and how that provides meaning in our lives. It shifted my mindset….FOR THE BETTER 😊!

 

So, as the quote states, “this week reach out to someone that might need a lift!” Just say hi, smile, send a positive note, open a door for someone, etc. Most often these small acts of kindness make a HUGE difference in someone’s day; in someone’s life.  We are all in this world together; we are all connected; life is more meaningful and fulfilling when you look outside of yourself with an eye toward helping others. Focus on the positive impact you can make through caring and connection. It truly will change YOUR world!!

Positive self-talk is a powerful tool for increasing your self-confidence and curbing negative emotions. Here are some tips to dispel the negative voices in your head and replace them with positive voices:

 

  • Give the negative voices in your head a name. Brene Brown calls them “gremlins.” This allows you to step away from them and poke fun at them, 

  • Use the 3rd person in self talk, this can help you step back and think more objectively about what you are telling yourself, 

  • Promote positive self-talk daily by thinking about or speaking “positive affirmations” to yourself and about your life situations 

  • Spend a few days listening closely to your inner dialogues: 

  • Are you supportive of yourself or critical of yourself? 

  • Are common threads or themes repeated? 

  • Are you labeling yourself harshly? 

  • How truthful or accurate is the thought? 

  • Are you overreacting? 

  • Is this an “all or nothing” thought? 

  • Would you be comfortable saying these same words to someone you love?

 

Positive self-talk won’t happen overnight, but practice makes progress. You have the power to create a life you love!

We have approximately 60,000 to 80,000 thoughts per day running through our minds; that is about 2500 – 3300 per hour. WOW!! It is said that about 80% of those are negative and 95% are repetitive. So, it is highly probable that you are not only thinking a negative thought, but also repeating it over and over in your mind without even realizing it. Pause for moment and ask yourself,

“what impact does that have on me?”

 

Challenge yourself to SLOW YOUR MIND W—A—A—A—Y DOWN, BE PRESENT and LISTEN to what you are thinking and saying to yourself. Write down your thoughts on a piece of paper; then, look:

What are your most frequent thoughts?

What do you want them to be?

 

YOU CAN SHIFT and CONTROL what you are thinking and saying to yourself. Rid yourself of self-limiting beliefs. Release negative messages and choose positive, kind, affirmative thoughts to permeate your brain and light your path.

 

Each moment is a new opportunity. Old, negative patterns will no longer limit you; you WILL let them go with ease. The sun shines not on you, but in you; so, dwell on positive thoughts and

After weeks of “social distancing” and “sheltering in place”, many of us may begin to feel a bit weary. With that mindset, it is easy to let slide some of your healthy habits and focus. I implore you, “Don’t Do It; Stay Strong!” As the quote says, having a steady purpose, focus or intention will quiet the loud chatter that might be starting to occupy your mind. 

 

What can you do to stay the course?

 

Each day, as part of your ritual, create an intention or purpose for the day and stay fixed on it. Doing this will decrease anxiety and increase calm. Each morning, when you open your eyes and before your feet hit the floor, ask yourself and answer this question:

 

“What is  my intention for today?”

 

Say it out loud; write it down; etch it into your mind, thoughts and words. Doing this will invite a whole new level of focus, happiness, prosperity and success for your day and for your life.

BE THE ENERGY YOU WANT TO ATTRACT

 

You attract the experiences and the people that match precisely how you feel within. Like energy attracts like energy. You are like a radio station, constantly broadcasting signals about yourself and your life. The people and the situations that match those signals are the ones that will tune into you and be drawn to your experience. Everything is energy; your thoughts begin with it; your emotions amplify it and your actions increase its momentum.

 

Are you attracting people and experiences that you want in your life?

 

If not, change your energetic vibration by changing the way you think, feel or act. Your thoughts and intentions have a profound impact on your vibration and thus, your world.

 

To Attract what you want, raise your energetic vibration. Here is a way you can make that happen:

  • Write down what you want and visualize it: when you begin seeing it and feeling what you want inside of you; you are feeling it's vibration.

  • Feelings: if you feel what you desire vibrating as part of you, you become the instrument. Feelings are a powerful vibrational filter; when you feel it, your vibration will raise.

  • Practice Gratitude: Be thankful for what you have now. The positive energy of gratitude raises your vibration to a higher state.

  • Radiate Love: Love is a flowing energy and permeates everything with light. Spend time every day sending out waves and waves of love!

 

Remember, YOU are the author of your life; if you don’t like how it is unfolding, write a different story.  Raise your vibration; change the frequency at which you vibrate and experience the MAGIC!

Do you feel comfortable saying what is on your mind or sharing what is in your heart? Often, we imagine if we share what is really on our mind or who we really are, we will be ignored or possibly rejected.

 

If you do not live your authentic life or share your authentic feelings, you contribute to creating walls that will surround you. There is a cost to you if you choose to live this way. Little by little a piece of you will die until you no longer know who you are, and you will begin to feel entrapped in a prison that you yourself create.

 

Take a risk. Begin to speak your truth; for it is in the speaking of your heart that makes you truly human. It is ok to be who you are. Know that you are perfect just the way you are. It is safe for you to be yourself. Once you believe this and start living as though this were your truth, the more you will begin to see it mirrored in the world around you.

How often each day do you get bogged down with thinking about the past or daydreaming about the future? When you spend your time in the past or in the future, you are totally missing out on the present moment! Often, you don’t realize the value of a day until it is gone.

 

As you navigate this hectic time of year, treat each day as a gift; unwrapping all it has to offer with a grateful heart.

Many times we are our own worst critics, holding ourselves to such high standards that may be difficult at times to reach. Why? What if we treated our own mistakes and shortcomings as we do others? Think about how you approach a situation when someone close to you may have made a mistake, failed, or did not reach an intended goal. Your reaction to them might be to coach, mentor, nurture, reassure and guide them, but definitely not be harsh. Do you show the same care and kindness to yourself?

 

What if you were as kind to yourself as you are to others? What if you treated yourself with the same compassion and kindness that you show others? How might that change your outlook, your perspective, your acceptance of the wonder you are?

 

The challenge for you this week and going forward is to shift your approach, and begin to be as kind, caring and compassionate to yourself as you are to others.
