Your thoughts can come and go so quickly; it can seem impossible to notice them, much less manage them. You can decide to purposefully slow down and be aware of what is going on in your mind. Doing this helps you notice and realize the lens through which you are viewing your reality. You oversee your thoughts. Will you entertain positive or negative thoughts today?
The Cherokee Indian legend, Two Wolves, is a beautiful illustration of this concept. One of the most important battles of your life is one you fight daily – the one between positive and negative thoughts. Here is how the story goes:
An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.
“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”
What thoughts are “feeding” your mind today? Are they empowering or disempowering? If they are empowering, GREAT; keep it up! If they are disempowering, YOU have the power to shift them by reframing your thoughts.
