Happy Friday! Did you know that today is national, “Take Your Dog to Work Day”? For the past several months, I have been very fortunate to work out of my home office; and every day my dogs are at work with me. Their presence has been an extremely positive addition in my work environment 😊!
As an animal lover, I think this national day of recognition is pretty awesome and thought I would share with you some of the benefits of having these furry friends in your life.
According to the CDC and WebMD, studies have shown that the bond between people and their pets can increase fitness, lower stress, and bring happiness to their owners. Some of the health benefits of having a pet include:
Decreased blood pressure
Decreased cholesterol levels
Decreased triglyceride levels
Decreased feelings of loneliness
Increased opportunities for exercise and outdoor activities
Increased opportunities for socialization (pets are a natural conversation starter) 😊
Decreased depression and anxiety, and a
Decreased risk of allergies and asthma
There are so many benefits to having a pet in your life; whether the animal is your own or one you have the opportunity to interact with regularly. Even if you don’t have a pet of your own, there are many ways to encounter animals in your community and experience some of these amazing health benefits. Here are some ideas: visit your local shelter or attend a shelter sponsored event and play with some of the adorable adoptable animals, go to the dog park, or visit a friend or family member who has a pet you enjoy.
Animals love us unconditionally and provide us with so many benefits. This weekend, make it a point to spend time with your favorite furry (or feathered or scaly 😊; whatever suits your fancy) friend and get a little boost to your health and an infusion of joy in your soul!
Have a GREAT day and a GREAT weekend!
