Happy Friday! The weekend is here again. We are finishing another week and we are experiencing the “finish line” of an April snow storm, complete with thunder snow, rain and sleet. You gotta’ love Minnesota 😊! As I am sitting here in my sun room writing this article, I look out my window at an amazing amount of birds in my backyard flying from feeder to feeder in a frenzy, foraging on the ground for seeds, chirping loudly at one another (it is truly an amazing site to see and hear). You can imagine them saying, “WTH” in the same way that we most likely have exclaimed to one another ☹! Oh well, maybe this is appropriate in that April is National Stress Awareness month and things like the weather may be one of the things on your list that challenge you and cause you a bit of stress. You do not have to succumb to the stress; after all, it is the weekend.
Make a commitment that you will allow yourself some downtime to help you reframe and recharge. During that downtime, do you want a simple suggestion of something you can incorporate into your day that helps you reframe situations, reduce your stress, improve your health, boost your immune system, diminish pain, enhance your mood, strengthen relationships and frankly increase your overall happiness; and the research says, possibly adds years to your life! Who wouldn’t want that? Well, the answer is Laughter! You have heard the adage, “your day will go the way the corners of your mouth turn.” Take that a step further and not only smile but burst into some audible laughter. There is research that states, healthy children laugh over a hundred times a day and adults laugh around 15 times, approximately. When and why did we lose our ability to laugh? Let’s commit to getting it back!
Laughter is a powerful antidote to stress, pain and conflict. Nothing works faster or more dependably to bring your mind and body back into balance than a good laugh. Humor lightens your burdens, inspires hope, connects you to others and keeps you grounded. Best of all, it is fun, free and easy to use 😊!
How can you incorporate more laughter into your life today, this weekend and every day?
When you hear laughter, move toward it. Seek it out, Ask, “what is funny?” People are very happy to share something funny because it gives them an opportunity to laugh again!
Spend time with fun, playful people who laugh easily – both at themselves and life’s absurdities – and who routinely find humor in everyday events. This playful point of view is contagious.
Create opportunities to laugh (watch a funny movie, tv show or YouTube Video, invite friends to a comedy club, host a game night with family and friends, do something silly, make time for fun activities, etc.)
As laughter, humor and play become integrated into your life you will learn to view the world from a more relaxed, positive and joyful perspective. Laugh long, laugh hard, and laugh often!
Have a great day and a great weekend!
