GOOD MORNING MONDAY – AFFIRMATIVE THOUGHTS FOR A GREAT WEEK
Good Morning. It is Monday! How was your weekend? I hope GREAT. Were you able to practice positivity on both the inside and the outside? How did it go? Let’s continue that spirit this week with a mindset of abundance, being grateful and giving thanks for the blessings that you are attracting into your life. There are blessings all around you. When the lens through which you view the world begins to see it that way, you will be able to receive and honor the blessings that are materializing in your life. Make “your channel” clearer for good things to flow into your life. This week, practice gratitude for the many blessings coming your way! With this shift in your mindset, you will be amazed by what you truly see and experience.
This week I want to begin talking about authenticity; “Be Who You Are,”; “To Thine Own Self Be True,”; “Be Yourself, Everyone Else is Taken,” are just a few quotes that either you have heard; or have rolled off your tongue at one time or another. While these quotes are easy to say, living up to their intent is not so easy. Life is a complex process. Life was never meant to be always “smooth sailing”. If everything in your life were easy, you would not be challenged; not stretched; and thus, not experience growth.
Discovery of you; who you are; and living your life authentically is not a “piece of cake”. When you were very young, it was much easier. As you grew older, the pressures of peers, parents, society were pressing in from every direction to push you to conform. As you grew older, you no doubt, succumbed to those pressures. Yet, the paradox is that the world we live in is starving for authenticity. Truly, one of our deepest desires is that those around us; family, friends, coworkers, leaders, etc., be themselves, speak their truth, tell us the truth and deep down we want to do the same. However, because we have been taught through our life that it is important to fit in and be liked; we begin to wear a mask. A mask we think we need to wear so that we are accepted. We wear this mask so long that little by little we forget who we really are, what our passions are and what gives us joy.
So, should you “throw in the towel”? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Each second of each day is a new beginning. You can choose to begin the journey of self-discovery and begin to uncover your authentic self.The road is right there in front of you; waiting for you. You must make the choice to take it. You must figure out the best path for your discovery journey. No doubt it will take some self-reflection, courage and bravery to begin to peel back the layers, look in the mirror and encourage your authentic self to blossom.
What is authenticity? Briefly, it is about:
understanding, accepting and owning who you are,
acknowledging and appreciating who you are,
and feeling safe to live your truth, speak your truth, and be yourself.
The more comfortable you are in your own skin; the more courageous you will be living and speaking your truth in your daily life. Self-awareness, self-love, and self-compassion are foundational components in your journey to authenticity. Self-love is a good place to start. If you do not love yourself, you will never be able to love another. If you do not have compassion for yourself, you will never be able to truly have compassion for another.
So, as you start this journey, at its foundation of self-love, please realize that you are one of a kind. Nobody in this world has your fingerprints. There will never be another you. You are a masterpiece. If you are going to reach your highest potential, you need to see yourself as unique; an original.
Be proud of who you are. Know that you have a special purpose and gifts to share in this lifetime. If you do not find the courage to live your authentic life and be who you are, the blessings you were meant to bestow on yourself and others will be missed.
Begin today by reflecting on the wonder of you. There is a beautiful poem that I want to share with you written long ago by Kabir, a Sufi poet. The garden is a metaphor for life, and the poem is about looking inside to find your beauty and realize the wonder of YOU. Your journey first inward will begin to build the foundation for living an authentic life.
Don’t go outside your house to see the flowers, my friend; don’t bother with that excursion,
Inside your body there are flowers; one flower has a thousand petals;
That will do for a place to sit; sitting there you will get a glimpse of beauty;
Inside the body and out of it;
Before gardens and after gardens.
Have a great day and a great week!
