Each year it seems as though stores are opening earlier and earlier for "Black Friday" sales. Some stores are even opening at 2PM on Thanksgiving Day. Though it is understandable that stores want to maximize profits, it feels like these sales are taking away from the true meaning of Thanksgiving by taking people away from their families.
This Thursday, instead of venturing out to get the hottest deal on the latest tech, try directing your dollars to a charity or loved one. In a study done at the University of British Columbia, participants were given money and asked to either spend it on someone else or themselves. Those that chose to spend their dollars on someone else reported significantly higher levels of happiness than those who chose to spend the money on themselves.
Keep this in mind as you are browsing the Black Friday ads and add to your happiness bank this holiday season!
