GOOD MORNING MONDAY –
AFFIRMATIVE THOUGHTS FOR A GREAT WEEK
Good Morning. How was your weekend? I hope that it was everything that you wanted it to be and that you were fully immersed and engaged in each wondrous, miraculous moment that you were given. Life is truly a gift! It is Monday again; are you ready and open to the week ahead? I hope so 😊 Remember, we become what we think about; so, think good thoughts, believe in yourself and be yourself. “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment,” (Ralph Waldo Emerson).
As you prepare to embark on the week ahead, take a moment to think about who you are, how you show up and how others experience you. Ask yourself,“what is the imprint that I leave on those with whom I come into contact each day?” Your moment to moment, day to day, responses and actions create your legacy. So often, legacy is thought about as something that is way off in the future and it is not something that needs to be thought about right now. Rethink that construct; because it is in the here and now that you are laying the groundwork for what your legacy is!
Legacy is not just for the “rich and famous”. Whether you think about it or not, consciously or unconsciously, you are creating your legacy every single day! Do you want to be actively involved in how you are experienced each day? Is it important to you how you will be remembered? What you create has impact; so, be purposeful. Make a conscious decision about the legacy you are creating. Know that everything you say, everything you do and everything you touch IS your legacy. It is your imprint on the world in which you live.
Thinking about and articulating the legacy you want to leave helps you stay focused in the present doing those things that contribute to that vision. As Stephen Covey said, “we must begin with the end in mind”. So, begin today with the image or picture of your life as the frame of reference through which everything else will be examined. Each part of your life, today’s behavior, tomorrow’s behavior, next week or next month’s behavior, etc., can be examined in the context of the whole of what really matters and what is most important to you, ensuring that it contributes to your vision for your life and legacy.
Legacy is about who you are, how you show up and how you touch people’s lives. It is not about what we leave FOR others that matters; it is about what we leave IN them that matters most. So, how do you begin to purposefully craft a vision of the legacy you choose to create? To do this, it is important that you reflect and think about who you want to be, how you want to be experienced, and who you want to be remembered as. This reflective time will help you begin to paint your vision about the imprint you desire to leave moment by moment and day by day. It is your job to define who you want to be, to build your reputation and to relentlessly pursue the best version of yourself. Once you define it; then, walk the walk!
Here are some strategies that I paraphrased from an article I read by Rebecca Hulse, “11 Ways to Become a Living Legacy.” If any resonate with you, adopt it and incorporate into your life. See what magic will happen as a result 😊
Be Kind – show unconditional kindness and warmth to someone each day.
Be There – give someone the gift of your time.
Show Resilience – the next time something gets you down or you face an unforeseen challenge, instead of whining, complaining or venting; show strength and positivity about what gift this specific challenge can provide you.
Share – Open your heart and soul to others.
Laugh – laugh in the good times; also challenge yourself to laugh at adversity. At times, when we laugh at our problems, they don’t seem so daunting, and thus, we conquer them.
Have a vision – visualize something you hold as “ideal”. Share your vision and demonstrate it publicly through your actions.
Have passion – engage in your life. Living your life with joy and passion can inspire and recharge others that experience your energy.
Listen – listen endlessly and actively. Provide a listening ear to others, like there is nothing more important at the time; because there isn’t.
Live above the line – live with integrity. Be accountable, responsible and take ownership for your own actions, beliefs and choices.
Take Action – create your vision and goals and then move toward them with action. Ask yourself, “what are you doing right now to get closer to your dreams?” Action is contagious.
Love – first, love yourself and then love others. We cannot truly love others until we love ourselves. Love unconditionally.
One synonym for the word “legacy” is “gift”. As you travel through this world, one of the most important gifts that you can give others that is not tangible is a piece of yourself. Your legacy is your gift. Ask yourself, “what kind of legacy do I want to leave?”
Have a great week sharing yourself with others, serving others and leaving behind the best and most beautiful parts of you. Remember – your legacy is not shaped at the end of time; it is shaped by what you say and how you show up each day; this is what you will be remembered for. Today and every day, create your legacy.
